Filler: Pre and Post Care Instructions

THE BEST WAY TO CARE FOR YOUR AMAZING RESULTS!

How can I prepare for my filler appointment?

  • You may want to avoid supplements and medications that thin the blood (NSAIDs like Advil, fish oil, turmeric, etc. unless otherwise indicated by your doctor) and alcohol for 2-3 days prior to your appointment. Never stop a medication prescribed to you without consulting the person who prescribed it.

  • Come in with a clean, make-up free face. We recommend making sure you’ve eaten before your appointment and hydrate throughout the day - it helps with the nerves and excitement!

  • No vaccines of any kind for a month before or month after

  • No dental cleanings or procedures for 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after

  • We will want to delay treatment if you have been sick at all in the past 2 weeks - upper respiratory infection, UTI, on an antibiotic for any reason.

  • The side effects of filler are minimal, but treatment always comes with a risk for bruising or swelling - in case it happens, make sure you have a 2 week window were you won’t be upset if anyone saw you with a bruise. No filler for 2-4 weeks before major events!

  • If you are in the process of losing weight, we recommend weight stabilization before pursing a filler treatment plan for optimal results.

Is there anything I should avoid after my appointment?

  • You want to keep your face as clean as possible for 24 hours after your appointment - no makeup, dirty phone screens, used pillowcases, etc.

  • Avoid anything heat-based for 24 hours after your appointment - no working out, excessive sun exposure, infrared saunas, hot tubs, etc.

  • Do not massage or aggressively manipulate your face; avoid putting pressure on the treated areas.

  • Swelling can be normal, but icing the areas, avoiding salty foods and alcohol, and taking a non-drowsy antihistamine like a Zyrtec or Claritin can help swelling go away faster.

Bruising and swelling can be common after filler treatments. However, if you ever notice any area that appear pale white, pale blue, or gray compared to the surrounding skin, numbness that has not gone away after 4 hours, intense pain, a red lacey pattern traveling up the face, changes in vision, or start to break up out in what looks like pimples or acne spots around the area injected in the next 24-72 hours, please contact your injector immediately.
